A training module is not the same thing as knowing the place where the work happens.
Social sector work often begins with a neat deck, a training module and a carefully designed framework. All of these can be useful. But they cannot replace knowing the setting.
A frontline health worker does not experience the system through a PowerPoint. They experience it through staff shortages, queues, paperwork, supplies and the everyday realities of a public health centre.
The joke lands because the question is simple: have we actually been there? Good development work starts with listening, observing and understanding before prescribing solutions.
