Humbled and Honored
We wrote the post. We approved it. We scheduled it. We liked it. We are humbled.
Nonprofit communication has its own vocabulary of gratitude. Every award, partnership, launch and announcement can begin with the familiar language of being humbled and honoured.
There is nothing wrong with gratitude. The joke is about the performance around it. Organisations can end up writing messages that sound spontaneous while being carefully drafted, approved, scheduled and distributed internally.
Communication becomes more interesting when it sounds like people actually speak. A little honesty can go a long way. Sometimes saying thank you without the ceremonial language feels more genuine than another carefully polished expression of humility.
