Change Has a Price Tag
The crowd wants change. The money wants something else.
The cartoon places people demanding change on one side and money on the other. It captures a tension that has followed philanthropy and nonprofit work for a long time.
People often want organisations to tackle difficult problems, while funding can come with preferences about what is measurable, visible or strategically attractive. The two goals do not always line up.
Money is necessary for most organisations to operate. But funding should not quietly redefine the problem being addressed. The question is not whether philanthropy funds change. It is what kind of change it is willing to fund.
